However, while his counterparts from that time are still very much in the limelight: names like Chinedu Ikedezie, Osita Iheme, Pete Edochie, etc, Amaechi Muonagor has been very noticeably absent.

Why is this? What happened to the beloved actor.

Amaechi

Born on 20th August 1962 in Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State in the south eastern part of Nigeria, Amaechi is now 57 years old.

He joined the Nigerian movie industry in 1998 where he starred in his first movie titled Taboo, a movie where he played the role of Chief Akunatakasi.

In 1999, Amaechi Muonagor rose to fame after starring in the huge Nollywood blockbuster movie Igodo, a movie that is till this day described as one of the greatest Nigerian movies and a door-opener for Nollywood. Then in 2003, Amaechi hit it big when he acted in the ginormous Nollywood blockbuster comedy movie Aki na Ukwa alongside Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) and Osita Iheme (Paw paw). The movie was HUGE in Nigeria and all these years later, even after its original glory, the movie hit Youtube and his still been able to garner over 11 Million Views. It was and still is one of the biggest movies to ever come out of Nigeria. For his role in that movie, Amaechi earned a nomination for Best Actor in Comedy at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

Following this, he went on to act in over 250 movies, until 2016 where it appeared everything came to a halt.

The Illness.

In 2016, sad news hit the internet sphere when numerous publications released reports that Amaechi was very ill and suffering from diabetes. According to Wikipedia, since this illness, Amaechi hasn’t appeared in any Nollywood movies since then and has presumably quit Nollywood.

While Amaechi hasn’t come out to confirm or deny these rumors, good news came in 2017 when a picture of him receiving a chieftaincy title hit the internet.

In the picture above, Amaechi looks stronger than what the public perception thought he’d look like.

We hope this picture is an indication that he’s been able to successfully fight off any disease or illness that he may have been struggling with.

Even if he chooses not to return to Nollywood, he has created a wonderful legacy for himself that will always live on.

We wish him good health and a prosperous life.
